A Project Driven by Research

The MuViCure programs are based on international research that independent scientist and the Musica Humana network has fielded in the past 10 years in hospital environments throughout Europe and the United States with the specially composed music, MusiCure, by Niels Eje. Numerous scientific articles from projects utilizing MusiCure have been published in international healthcare journals.

MuViCure is part of ongoing studies into the effects of audiovisual media in the healthcare system and in coorporate environents. Below is a selection of studies:

1. EIK Investment Bank
2. SynerGaia Rehabilitation
3. Individual Users of MuViCure
4. Copenhagen Airport
5. Virumgaard Nursing Home, Dementia Unit
6. Dental Clinics
7. Aarhus Hospital, General Surgery Unit
8. Danish Defense Academy & Military in Bosnia and Iraq
9. MS project

Case 1.)
Eik Investment Bank

How MuViCure reduces stress as a part of a powernap in a busy working environment. The study included all 29 employees who used MuViCure at least once during a two month period.

Goal: To measure the effect of using a MuViCure program as a break during a busy workday.

Results:

61% felt more relaxed and/or rejuvenated after watching the program.
50% thought that the program had a positive effect on the rest of their workday.
71% would like to use the program as a permanent part of their workday.

Case 2.)
SynerGaia Rehabilitation, Language Center Herning, Herning, Holstebro and Viborg

The study was carried out during one month using 35 people undergoing rehabilitation as well as 20 instructors. The program was shown on both a large screen as well as a normal TV.

Goal: To study the reaction among participants from different cultural backgrounds.

Results:

90% felt relaxed or energized after having seen the program.
91% would like to use the program again.
97% would recommend the program to others.

Cultural nuances:
Many of the participants commented that they recognized the mountains/hills from their home country – positive. Many felt insecure by the images with mist, as it reminded them of war. go to page top

Case 3.)
Individual Users of MuViCure

A specially chosen group of 21 people (industrial psychologists, early retirees, company directors, nurses, a colonel, et al.) tested several MuViCure programs during their daily lives.

Goal: To assess if the use of MuViCure programs can contribute to relaxation and renewed energy during a person’s day.

Results:

All test subjects experienced a lower pulse and deeper breathing while watching the program.
83% felt inspired/relaxed/happy after the program.
94% wanted to use the program in the course of their daily lives.
93% like/very much liked the program.
94% would recommend the program to others.go to page top

Case 4.)
Copenhagen Airport

In conjunction with a specially designed “creative” employee room at Copenhagen Airport, several MuViCure programs were used for inspiration and relaxation.

Goal: To assess if MuViCure can contribute to providing the employees at Copenhagen Airport renewed energy during a busy workday.

Results:

Those employees who were able to routinely use the “creative room” were very enthusiastic about the MuViCure programs. Many wanted to take the programs home and use them in their leisure time as well as to relax after a long workday. go to page top

Case 5.)
Virumgaard Nursing Home, Dementia Unit

To improve the environment for residents suffering from dementia, and give a calming effect. Over a two month period, 18 residents had the ability to watch several specially produced MuViCure programs.

Goal: To study the residents’ reactions to the programs as well as clarify which programs work best with dementia patients.

Results:

In general, the programs provided a good mood in the room, and the majority of residents were completely relaxed while watching, which is unusual for dementia patients. Many residents commented that the images and music were beautiful. Generally, there was a better effect with the shorter programs with more changes of images and music compared to the longer programs with longer scenes. go to page top

Case 6.)
Dental Clinic

MuViCure programs were used in conjunction with dental care for insecure and nervous patients.

Results:

Only positive reports. Patients even said that they were relaxed after treatment. go to page top

Case 7.)
Aarhus Hospital, General Surgery Unit

Quantitative and qualitative research of the effect of MuViCure programs prior to treatment of hospital patients, with economic support by the Tryg Foundation.

Goal: To establish if MuViCure programs can reduce discomfort, anxiety and pain in patients prior to the administration of a neural blockade.

Results:

Preliminary results show that MuViCure programs contribute to patients being more relaxed prior to the procedure, leading to a reduction in pain relievers and neural stimulant medication. go to page top

Case 8.)
Danish Defense Academy & Military in Bosnia and Iraq

Part of a de-stress programme under extreme field conditions, and as part of a mental recovery programme on their return. Experiment to include the use of MuViCure programs prior to, during, and after deployment of units to Bosnia and Iraq.

Goal: To investigate if MuViCure programs have a relaxing effect on soldiers prior to, during, and after deployment.

Results:

No results were obtainable, as implementation of the experiment was not possible due to the heavy workload of the units. However, a colonel who was previously deployed had used a MuViCure program in conjunction with his treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with a positive effect. go to page top

Case 9.)
MS project

As a part of a de-stress program, in working and home situations. De-stress is essential in MS, to prevent escalation of symptoms.
