Musica Humana

Musica Humana was started in Denmark in 1998 by Professor Dr. Lars Heslet and composer Niels Eje, with the aim of creating and scientifically documenting a new music-sound environment in hospitals. Their research has achieved positive and documented results in studies involving thousands of patients in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the US.

Since its inception the music-sound environment used in all the studies has been specially composed and produced by composer/musician Niels Eje. The project has received substantial funding from one of Scandinavia's leading private foundations, the Egmont Foundation.

Tested extensively on different patient groups

Patient groups studied include:
- Intensive care and coma patients
- Patients recovering after anesthesia
- Patients undergoing heart examinations/cardiac catheter examinations
- Psychiatric patients, including schizophrenia, depression, borderline, psychotic and manic/depressive

The research and implementation of a new music-sound environment in hospitals has improved patient satisfaction by up to 90%. The detailed results can be read and downloaded as whitepaper from musicahumana.org
